Cropital

Eliminating financial barriers for small farmers

1300 small loans | 800+ farmers | 4000+ Filipino funders

Cropital is a peer-to-peer lending platform that provides affordable credit to farmers by connecting them to lenders and providing access to financial products and agricultural services that help them manage risks and maximize harvests. In order to link farmers to capital, they have created a crowdfunding platform to finance uncollateralized loans offered to farmers at a 2% per month interest rate which farmers pay back to lenders after a six-month period.

Cropital has made loan applications easy and low-cost for farmers by deploying field officers to rural communities and partnering with agriculture stores and farmer groups to facilitate loan applications. Their efforts are complemented by their offline-first technology which allows them to gather data and process loans from multiple provinces. They manage risks for lenders through their own credit scoring model which is based on data gathered from over 800 smallholder farmer borrowers. Cropital outperforms informal lending sources because in addition to having no collateral requirement, their interest rate remains at 2% per month.
